The Waverley has been out of commission during the busy Glasgow Fair period, and been berthed at Largs Pier awaiting repairs.
In a message from the operators on Saturday, they stated: "Waverley's sailings will not be running this weekend as we await repair to the ship's air pump. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. You can transfer to any other sail or return them for a refund."
However, the 'News' understands that the a new bespoke part was being awaited, leading to a longer delay, and the world's oldest paddlesteamer has been left berthed at Largs ever since.
Bringing a huge amount of passengers to the town via Largs Pier, it has been a blow for local businesses, while the ship itself has lost out on essential revenue.
And as we went to press, a Waverley spokesman said: "Unfortunately Waverley's sailing on Wednesday July 26th from Largs-Rothesay-Tignabruaich and Tarbert will not be operating as a repair to the ship's air pump has over run. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Transfer tickets to any other sailing or return for a refund."
Problems developed on the steamer last Monday afternoon after it broke down on the channel between Largs and Cumbrae for a period of 45 minutes, and after berthing at Largs, city passengers onboard had to return to Glasgow by train.
The Waverley has been celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, and included its summer midweek evening cruise last Wednesday which visited Largs and Millport.
