One of the Firth of Clyde Rowing Club’s newest members is ready to show her mettle with a marathon indoor rowing challenge.

Kathy Schofield will be at the Clark Memorial Church hall this Saturday, where she aims to row 42,195km - the regulation marathon distance to raise funds for the charity Place 2Be and the rowing club.

Kathy said: “The Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club is a self-funded community club based in Largs. Since the club was established in 2012 they have built two St Ayres skiffs which are used for social rowing and racing.

“Coastal rowing is a very accessible sport and open to all ages and abilities. It’s a fantastic way to keep fit, meet new friends and have fun at the same time. “I’ve spent a number of years rowing in my garage on a Concept 2 Indoor rowing machine but decided recently to experience rowing on water.

“I was introduced to The Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club and haven’t looked back. “The club made me so welcome from my very first contact with them. The sport is truly inclusive and there is something for everyone whether you want to get involved in boat maintenance, compete or just row socially.

“Raising some funds for the club seemed a natural thing to do when I decided to challenge myself to row a marathon distance on the indoor rowing machine. “In my job I work with young people who need additional support within mainstream education so the work Place2Be undertake is very close to my heart.

“To give myself some extra motivation I’ve decided to raise some funds for Place2Be and support them in continuing the excellent work they do in primary and secondary schools. “Any support you can give will be gratefully appreciated. if you have any questions just ask - thanks Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.” The event is part of a fund raising coffee morning from 10 am until 1 pm £2 entry , as well as a great selection of delicious home baking there will be some craft stalls and our friends from the RNLI.

A great opportunity for anyone interested in our club to meet and chat to members who will be keen to answer any questions. Not forgetting of course to cheer Kathy on with this amazing challenge
