Reverend Gordon Fyfe of St Columba's Episcopal Church in Largs was made a canon in June.
This is a very important role in the church diocese of Glasgow and Galloway, and he is there to support the Bishop.
The congregation wanted to show their appreciation for this new role and made an attractive cake by Vicky Johnson, and presented him with a gift this Sunday.
The word is derived from the Greek kanon, a "measuring rod or rule."
A canon may be a member of the clergy on the staff of a cathedral or diocese. Members of the clergy have at times been made honorary canons of a cathedral in recognition of significant service or achievement. Historically, canons were secular clergy who were connected to a cathedral or collegiate church, sharing the revenues and a common rule of life at the church.
Rev. Fyfe has also been involved in community affairs as a director of Largs Viking Festival, and served as chaplain for Largs Academy.
Earlier this year, a new prayer labyrinth has been installed in the grounds of the Aubery Crescent church to provide a ‘sacred space’ for prayer and meditation.
For many years it has been the aim of St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church to offer the use of a prayer labyrinth to the community.
The Anglican Church, which opened in Largs in 1877, hosts many activities including various house groups, Summer mission children's club, Choir, Social events Mothers' Union, and also hosted the Largs Rotary car boot sale within its grounds on Saturday morning.
