Both the Red Devils parachute display and the Gillian Saltire Appeal swim between Cumbrae and Largs have been cancelled due to adverse weather.

Organisers left it until Sunday morning to decide, although MET weather forecasts for the day were not promising, after a beautiful sunshine day on Saturday for the Viking battle re-enactment and fireworks display.

Festival director Ray Young said: "We very much regret that the Red Devils Freefall Team display programmed for 3pm today has been cancelled due to forecast heavy rain and high winds."

And a post appeared on the Gillian Saltire Appeal facebook page on Sunday morning: "Unfortunately due to the weather today we have had to cancel the swim. It is not possible to do the alternative route either as the winds are not in our favour and would not be safe.

"We will let you know asap if it is going to be rescheduled for another date this year or postponed until next year."
