Largs and District Horticultural Society held their annual Flower Show in the Dunn Memorial Hall of St John's Church recently.

Despite the poor weather of late, the exhibitors overcame the conditions to offer visitors a colourful spectacle of pot plants, vegetables and cut flowers. Also on display were mouth-watering examples of home baking and delightful exhibits of hobbies and crafts. The floral art section reflected both creative imagination and artistic talent while future potential was clearly in evidence in the schools and junior sections.

The poor weather did not deter a steady stream of visitor, many of whom also enjoyed the home-made soup and baking in the tearoom. There were special treats for all the young visitors to the show, courtesy of a generous donation from an overseas member of the society.

Local gardener Christine Hitter was the winner of the John W Hunter Cup for overall winner of the show. This was a new trophy donated by the family of the late John Hunter who had been a stalwart of the Society and a prolific winner at the show for many years.

The best exhibit in the show was awarded to 2 vases of large Gladioli by David Chynoweth from Newmilns.

All the comments received were favourable and above all everyone enjoyed their day at Largs Flower Show.

Grateful thanks to all the people who have worked throughout the year to make the show a success and to all the local businesses who generously donated to the society.
