Could Trafalgar Court or Viking Way be coming to a new housing development in Largs?
There is the opportunity to see local democracy in action involving Largs, Millport, Skelmorlie, Fairlie and West Kilbride.
This is because elected councillors and community councillors will be meeting on Wednesday evening in the Clark Memorial Church Hall at 6pm to discuss important local issues.
One of the decisions to be taken at the meeting is the name of a new residential development adjacent Nelson Street with options including Trafalgar Court as Nelson was killed at the battle of Trafalgar, or Victory Place which was the name of Nelson’s flagship. Others suggestions include Nelson Court and Nelson Place.
The developer of the site has contacted this department requesting new street names for the development
Council planners have already given their opinion and suggested that Viking Way, Largs is considered to be ‘too far away from the location of the new development, and could lead to confusion.’
However, they believe that Trafalgar Court or Victory Place would be unique to North Ayrshire.
The North Coast Locality Partnership meetings were set up last year and have already discussed a number of important matters to affect the areas including granting £100,000 for a new skate park at Mackerston in Largs, and the loss of swing parks.
Millport Art Group, Largs Organic Gardens and the new Vertex music and arts festival for West Kilbride in late October, are among the local groups who have applied for funds this time round.
