The second film in the new season for Largs Film Society is the Swedish film Force Majeure (2014) Force Majeure, is a French legal term which is the equivalent of an act of God: or a disaster which relieves both parties of the obligations of the contract until the disaster is over
So, when a father and husband abandons his family to save himself, is he justified? The anticipated disaster fails to occur, and yet the family's world has been shaken to its core, with a question mark hanging over their father in particular. Tomas and Ebba's marriage now hangs in the balance as Tomas struggles desperately to reclaim his role as family patriarch.
