The Largs Film Society continues its season with the American political drama Argo.

The 2012 flick was directed by and stars Ben Affleck. In 1979, Iranian activists storm the United States embassy in Tehran in retaliation for President Jimmy Carter giving the Shah asylum in the U.S. during the Iranian Revolution. 60 of the embassy staff are taken as hostages, but six avoid capture and are sheltered in the home of Canadian ambassador Ken Taylor. Tony Mendez, a U.S. Central Intelligence Agency specialist, is brought in for consultation.

While on the phone with his son, he is inspired by watching ‘Battle for the Planet of the Apes’ and begins plans for creating a cover story for the escapees: that they are Canadian filmmakers who are in Iran scouting exotic locations for a science-fiction film.

The society screens films every third Friday from September to May in the Valhalladrome at Vikingar; doors open at 7pm with a short introduction to the film before the screening at 7.30pm. Entry is to members and their guests. Membership is closed for this season, for membership enquiries please contact membershipsecretary@largsfilmsociety.co.uk.
