Bringing back the solar powered compressor bins to Largs seafront and town centre could go a long way to solving the seagull problem at Largs.
That is the view of environment chairman Patricia Perman who is seeking to start a campaign to bring the ‘Big Belly Bins’ back to the town after a successful trial session last year.
The bins are expensive though, and Mrs Perman suggested at the last meeting that sponsorship from fast food takeaways could be sought.
She suggested that logos from the various takeaways who take out sponsorship could appear on the bins.
Councillor Alan Hill stated that another way of assisting funds could be via the Largs seafront car park fund which assists various projects in the town.
Largs Community Council had written to Dundee City Council who sought permission to shoot seagull in attempts to curb an ongoing problem in the city.
Mrs Perman said: “They shoot them under the terms of a general licence between 4 and 6 in the morning but it sounds very vicious. Elgin in Moray are using lasers - they don’t kill seagulls but just disrupt them, that may actually solve the problem.”
Largs Council agreed to pursue the improved bins instead.
