Largs couple Matt and Betty Currie celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with over 50 family and friends in the Willowbank Hotel on Saturday.
The celebration was fully organised by Betty including the cake, and both requested that no presents were given and instead requested donations to be made to their two favourite charities - Tearfund and Release International. They feel that they already have all they want and that many around the world are in great need.
Matt (82) and Betty (84) met through the Baptist churches in Greenock and were married in Orangefield Baptist Church Greenock on October 7 1957.
Their three children are Liz (& Stewart), Matthew (& Naomi) and David (& Shona). They have five grandsons and currently two great grandchildren with a third due in November.
Four generations of the family now live in Largs with ages ranging from 2 to 84.
Matthew flew over from California to join the celebrations. Other guests travelled from Dumfries, Perth and Dunoon.
Jane Evans, the Deputy Lieutenant presented the card from Her Majesty, The Queen.
Both now live in Homemount House, Largs.
Matt was a joiner to trade and then worked in IBM in Greenock, while Betty was involved in office work until she was married, and then worked as a school auxiliary.
Both are members of the Brisbane Evangelical Church, and their secret to their long marriage is they never argue, and have a very strong Christian faith.
