Boatbuilding lecturer Martin Hughes has praises his apprentices for the good work in carving out a Viking boat for the future at Largs Railway Station.
The impressive display will certainly bring back fond memories of the Viking ship prow which used to be based on the front entrance of the art-deco Viking Cinema from the 1940s until the 1970s.
The new prow was designed and built by the apprentices at the Scottish Boat Building School based at the Maritime Museum.
The apprentices are Nicole MacGregor (Kilbirnie) Connor Campbell (Irvine) and Ben McColgan (Fairlie).
The vessel was constructed using recycled scaffolding planks to reduce the overall cost of construction and this created some problems due to the fragile nature of materials used.
Marint said: "Nicole, Connor and Ben all worked extremely hard to produce something that myself and hopefully our community can be proud of. We’d like to thank Anne Carson and The Largs Organic Growers committee for giving us the opportunity to create the Prow and hope both locals and visitors to the town enjoy the fruits of our apprentices labour."
