ONLY four people were reported for drink driving in North Ayrshire during the whole month of December last year.

Before Christmas we reported how not one person had been detected for the crime, despite the festive crackdown across Scotland being on the go since the start of December.

Final figures for the month show that four people were detected in total in North Ayrshire and this was down from 11 in the same time period in 2016.

Despite this dramatic reduction North Ayrshire’s top cop still hopes that more can be done to combat the issue of drink driving.

Chief Inspector Brian Shaw said: “Following our recent campaign, I am pleased to report that the level of drink drivers is dramatically less across North Ayrshire compared to last year.”

He added: “While it is pleasing to see the reduction, it is still four too many.”
