Caledonian MacBrayne have suspended sailings between Cumbrae and Largs due to high winds.

The decision was taken at 4.23pm.

The Largs lifeboat was called out earlier today during high winds to a report of a capsized sailing dinghy off Fairlie pier, and rescued two people who had been in the water for a total of 40 minutes, the lifeboat's facebook page reported.

The Ardrossan Coastguard page stated: "The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team were called out shortly before lunchtime today following reports of a capsized dinghy just south of Largs.

"The 999 call to the Coastguard came from a member of the public who had seen the dinghy capsize near to Fairlie with Largs Lifeboat and Largs Coastguard Rescue Team also being tasked to the incident.

"The team responded immediately and proceeded north with Largs lifeboat being on scene within nine minutes.

"Once on scene, Largs lifeboat successfully rescued the persons from the water, with one being transferred to the Cumbrae Water Sports RIB to be taken ashore. The lifeboat has then taken the casualty vessel under tow and proceeded to the slipway at Largs to bring the second casualty and the vessel safely ashore where both the Ardrossan and Largs teams were waiting.

"The team has worked alongside our colleagues from Largs Coastguard Rescue Team to ensure all persons were safe and well and the vessel was safely recovered ashore without incident.

"Following details being noted and with all persons safe and well and not requiring any further assistance, the team has stood down and returned to station to repack equipment and complete the necessary paperwork.

"In this instance all persons were suitably equipped for the conditions which played a significant role in the successful outcome of today's incident, with the casualties believed to have been in the water for approximately 40 minutes.

"We would also like to extend our thanks to the Cumbrae Sailing Club and the CalMac Ferries Loch Shira (Largs to Millport ferry) for diverting to assist."
