The Largs Dental Surgery building in Main Street was struck by lightning on Tuesday afternoon during bizarre weather conditions.
The area was forecast for thundersnow - the rare phenomenon occurs when thunderstorms form in wintry conditions.
If the weather is cold the rain associated with a thunderstorm can then fall as snow and thus is called thundersnow, with warmer air trying to rise under colder air.
A message on the Largs Dental Surgery facebook page stated: "Our building has been struck by lightning! We are still open but the phone line is currently not working. In the case of an emergency, please visit the practice or call NHS24 on 111."
The wintry conditions on Tuesday caused great difficulties for commuters returning home.
The A760 Largs to Kilbirnie and B874 Dalry road were both closed by police on Tuesday evening due to wintry conditions.
An artic lorry ground to a halt near Rockland Park affecting traffic coming north during the afternoon and early evening.
Alison Hughes tweeted: "We had thundersnow and hail like nothing I've witnessed before and the roads are like ice rinks."
Duncan Conner said: "There is not much moving on Irvine Road - the hail has turned the road into a sheet of ice."
And Millport PC Michael Emans appealed for drivers to be cautious while using the coast road and ferry road, while the ferry slip was also causing problems with people attempting to get up the hill off the ramp.
