Largs Academy will remain closed on Friday, as well as other local schools and early year classes at SkelmorlieFairlie, Largs Primary and Cumbrae due to the severe winter weather conditions.

All junior football games this weekend have been cancelled including Shettleston v Largs, as has the Scotland v England veterans game due for Inverclyde Sports Centre.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Largs will remain closed until Monday 5 March.

All schools will be reopening on Monday 6 March, North Ayrshire Council have confirmed.

Inverclyde Sports Centre have posted: "We have beaten the snow and have reopened! Our team has been hard at work clearing the snow and ensuring we are gritted. Please take care if travelling to us though as weather warnings are still in place."

Stagecoach 585 buses are running between Ayr and Greenock but have decided to only go as far as Barrs Cottage in Greenock due to hazardous road conditions, and will be reviewed throughout the day. Trains are still off between Glasgow and Largs.

McGills 901 and 906 buses in operation but can't serve Largs and only able to start from Wemyss Bay.

On Friday morning, there were reports on social media that the top part of Laverock Drive in Largs is a no go area after people had to dig their cars out of the snow after becoming stuck. At 6am, Brisbane Glen Road was reported to be totally blocked with snow drifts 8-10 feet high up at Middleton Farm. 

And shoppers report that bread and milk are in short supplies. Carol McDowell in Fairlie messaged the 'News' the following picture of bread shelves in Morrisons supermarket in Largs this morning.

On Thursday on Cumbrae, the Council Ferry Road was closed from the junction with the inner circle road to the ferry after the snow plough had broken down. The Cumbrae Eco Watch beach clean planned for Kames Bay was also cancelled.

Meanwhile, there were terrific efforts in Skelmorlie yesterday to clean the roadways of snow after a snow plough had a struggle at Skelmorlie Glen Road, while the roadway at the fire station was also cleared by volunteers.
