A highly acclaimed 86-year-old local artist’s work is on sale at the Ayrshire Hospice Art Exhibition, writes Julie McLaughlin.

James Watt from Largs is one of the most experienced artists participating in the Fundraising Event at the Scottish Maritime Museum, from Friday March 2 until Sunday March 11.

With work spanning decades, Mr Watt has become very successful as a maritime artist and is famous for painting boats and puffers.

Her majesty the Queen, Prince Phillip and the Princess Royal are among those who proudly display Mr Watt's art amongst their private collections.

His ability to capture harbours and shipyards has taken him all over the world, including most of the rivers in Europe, the Nile and the Ganges.

James Wallace from Johnstone will also have his work displayed in the exhibition following an extensive career in art.

Fundraising officer Lauren Cahir expressed what a privilege it was to spend the day with two such inspirational men: “I am delighted they have both been able to supply two beautiful pieces for our art show and would like to thank them for their very generous support of the hospice.”

Over 50 local artists will be displaying over 150 pieces of art at the free event, with 50 per cent of the sale going to the hospice.
