Thought for the Week by Richard Walker, retired Anglican clergyman

In the past weeks I have given examples of people who believed that Jesus rose from the dead. These were from long ago. Many people, of whom I am one, believe today in a risen Saviour.

I believe in Jesus’ resurrection and also that one day I shall die and be raised to new life to be with Jesus for ever. In fact that resurrection life is part of my daily experience.

Just one example: In 1994 my wife and I were asked to lead a Christian holiday on the island of Corfu. At the end a minister and his wife came and told us she had had terrible depression and had lost her faith. They had prayed and received therapy for 5 years. During their time in Corfu the depression had begun to lift and she had begun to believe there might be a God who loved her. We prayed together and then they began to leave to go to dinner. I shook his hand and she offered me a hand.

To my great surprise I found myself saying words from God. I said, “That’s the wrong hand it’s the other arm that God wants to bless.” She said, ”Do you know?” I said that I was out of my depth. She rolled back the sleeve on her left arm showing scars saying, “I hate me” from when she had tried to kill herself with a knife. Her depression has now gone and she has renewed her faith in the risen Jesus.

I think if you look at the evidence you can believe that Jesus rose from death and is alive today.
