Joggers are putting themselves at risk by running on a main thoroughfare between Largs and Skelmorlie.
Motorists were taken aback to see joggers on the busy A78 coastal road during the recent spell of good weather last week.
The busy road, which has a 60 mile an hour speed limit, has little in the way of any pavements, and has a number of bends in the road. It is also well used by buses.
Concerned road users contacted the police on 101 after witnessing the danger.
Inspector Colin Convery of Largs Police said: "Whilst not illegal, walking/jogging on any fast flowing road like the A78 poses a very real risk to the jogger`s personal safety, not to mention the potential action/reaction that a driver on seeing him/her might take.
"I`d also encourage anyone seeing such activities to report the incident."
