There was alarm at Largs swimming pool last Wednesday tea-time as a young girl swimmer suffered breathing difficulties and paramedics were called in.
One concerned eye-witness told the 'News' that there was 'incredible heat' inside the pool due to ventilation issues which led to the problems as other young swimmers complained of respiratory difficulties.
Cunninghame North MSP Kenneth Gibson held an urgent meeting with North Ayrshire Leisure chief Frank Keddilty concerning the matter on Monday.
The Vikingar! swimming baths and sauna has been closed since the incident and was due to open as we go to press on Wednesday morning after heating and ventilation difficulties at the leisure complex.
This follows a 'News' investigation a fortnight ago about health risks and ventilation at the pool.
A swimming club for youngsters was taking place at the time of the incident when some complained of respiratory problems.
A spokeswoman for North Ayrshire Leisure said: 'As a result of a re-occurring mechanical problem with the swimming pool ventilation system, the swimming pool has been closed until Wednesday 29 October to allow repairs to be carried out.
'We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.'
The pool re-opened on Wednesday morning.
