14 new jobs as Tesco to open

The new Tesco Express store is set to open its doors on Wednesday February 10 and will bring 14 new jobs to Largs.

The spacious Aitken Street premises was the former Woolworths, which had a long tradition in Largs, opening in 1960, but closed after the administrators were called in during the Christmas of 2008.

The 'News' revealed in October last year that Tesco had taken over the vacant premises which were temporarily used by Semi-Chem last summer.

Tesco store manager Gillian Clark said: "Tesco recruited staff from the local area to work in the new store and worked closely with the local Job Centre Plus in the recruitment process. This had very positive results and attracted many applicants."
