Scottish Water is advising motorists that the A78 in Skelmorlie, is to be temporarily closed on Sunday January 31 to allow a damaged section of road to be repaired.

A short stretch of Shore Road in Skelmorlie, near its junction with Eglinton Terrace, will be closed in both directions from 7am until midnight on Sunday January 31 to allow contractors for Scottish Water to reinstate the road, which was damaged as a result of a burst water main before Christmas.

The section of road was temporarily closed to allow the burst main to be repaired on December 24.

During the road closure diversions will be in operation from the A78 at Skelmorlie via Largs along the A760 to Kilbirnie, the A737 to Johnstone, the A761 to Port Glasgow and the A8 and A78 through Greenock to Skelmorlie and via the same route in the opposite direction.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: "We appreciate that the work will cause some disruption to road users and apologise for the inconvenience. We also thank them for their patience and understanding during what has been a very busy period for Scottish Water and our contractors as a result of the recent weather."
