Comments (8) | Print | Email

An OAP who is believed to have fallen asleep at the driving wheel ending up crashing into two parked cars on Largs seafront last Tuesday.

About 3.30pm, the vehicle lost control in Gallowgate Street, and two parked vehicles were damaged but no one was injured.

A 76 year old male is being reported to the Procurator Fiscal for allegedly driving in a careless manner. It is alleged that the man fell asleep at the wheel. The pensioner was given a breath test which returned a negative result. His own car came off the worst in the accident, with damage to the front and offside.

How do you hit parked cars with the offside of your vehicle without crossing the centre of the road?

Give the old bloke a break and let the insurance companies take care of it. He never set out to intentionally damage the vehicles. Should never have been reported to the PF.

A bit more focus on the real evils that blight our community and a little more understanding for simple transgressions.

Poor old guy is probably worried sick.

They'll be working on what 'could' have happened. I agree though - an easy target.

No One over the age of 70 should be driving!. A few years ago a pensioner ran into and wrote off my car which was parked outside the house in broad daylight.

I ended up over £1200 out of pocket.

Why are so many pensioners in town between 3.30 pm & 6 pm anyway ?, "Oh it's the busiest time of the day with the school run and folk returning home from work, Largs is practically gridlocked - I'll drive into the toon and buy some tea cakes" .

Fallen asleep at the wheel??? How far had he travelled.. Saltcoats?

I would like to point out that the Pensioners car did NOT come out worst, but the car that he hit is a RIGHT OFF, as he hit it in the front with such a force that it was pushed into the car behind.

Oh and why pensioners in town at that time, well they maybe making their way home after retirement activities... bowling, golfing curling and Lunches.

Goodness... lots of ageist comments around today!

Would you all have said this if it had been a Pakistani driver and you wanted to ban all Pakistani drivers becasue their driving test is virtually non-existent? Ageism ok, racism bad? Maybe generalisations are the worst of all!

In Canada we respect 'Seniors' a bit more. Who looks after the grand kids of you guys, fed and watered and changed your diapers, and probably also fought in the war to make sure you're not talking online in German?

Hey, give your seniors some understanding, you never know when you will need them next!

It's not to do with age - boy racers display the same attention span and lack of driving ability.

It's to do with hats - flat caps, trilbys, baseball caps, and some of the mad old women drivers are obviously wearing wigs.

    Their brains get overheated.
