Largs Police Station not on verge of closing

The chief of Largs police has "categorically denied" that they are on the verge of closing the local office.
Last week, a source from within the force told the 'News' that the School Street station could be set to close "within a couple of months" due to ongoing Strathclyde police budget cuts, leaving officers without a Largs headquarters.
Residents have complained of increasingly finding their emergency calls diverted to Glasgow call centre staff and seeing officers drafted in from outwith the area to police the local beat.
However, while Inspector Charles Sweeney admitted this week that the School Street building was no longer fit for their needs, he insisted that closure was NOT imminent.
He stated: "We in Strathclyde Police, like all other public sector organisations, are having to closely examine our expenditures and this includes resources and buildings, for example.
"There is no question that the office building we have at Largs is old and not best suited to the needs of the organisation....
