Let's all muck in together!
Let's all muck in together!
Marlyn Green of the Largs Blooming Lovely group has urged the public to get behind the town's efforts as it goes for Gold this summer in the Scotland in Bloom contest as judges have announced they will be coming on the dreaded date of Friday 13 August!
North Ayrshire Council Grounds and Maintenance staff have been hard working throughout the town with various floral improvements at local parks and in seafront locations during recent months.
The Largs Blooming Lovely group have now received the official map layout that judges will be inspecting on the morning.
The judges will meet the Largs Blooming Lovely committee at the Willowbank Hotel and will be greeted by Vik the Viking litter-free mascot.
The judges will proceed south along Greenock Road to Lifeboat Station for short stop then go to Skelmorlie Aisle, Largs town centre, Douglas or Anderson Park. Kelburn Golf Club, Largs Marina return along Irvine Road and go down May Street, along Broomfields to Mackerston and Sandringham
go to Clark Memorial Church, Fort St and turn into Main Street, go up Bellmans Close to School Street.
They will go up Gateside Street into Flatt Road and visit Largs Academy and continue up Flatt Road, turn into Eastern Avenue and then via Phillips Avenue back onto Eastern Avenue to Inverclyde Recreation Centre
After going down Laverock Drive into Brisbane Glen Road, the judges will walk to Noddleburn Water and pick up a bus at the next turning in Glen Avenue.
They will proceed along Glen Avenue into Kilburn Water and turn into the Cemetery before going to Brisbane Glen Road, down Douglas Street, into Aubery.
If time permits drive along to Danefield showing Hollywood/Underbank and return to Willowbank Hotel for a coffee and 15 minutes chat.
Marlyn Green said: "The gardens on the route are always nice. It would be good if householders could remember to do a wee tidy up before the 13th although council weed the edge of the pavements, if residents could remove any weeds at the time of the judging. We got a silver gilt last year, and this year, we hope to be going for gold. I think the town is looking good and everyone else is saying so. The Scotland in Bloom competition is not just about the gardens, it is also about the litter, recycling and the environment in general."
Mrs Green also revealed to the 'News' that the Largs Blooming Lovely group are still working on getting allotments in the local area to grow your own food and veg.
