The high winds which disrupted the Open Golf and Lasers Championships swirling throughout Scotland failed to put a dampener in the fourth Largs Round Table RNLI Raft Race.
It was maybe quite apt that Largs Sailing Club gained full honours as they cruised to victory at a canter as their eight man ship triumphed as they paddled their way through the high seas. All the usual characters turned out from Jack Sparrow to Captain Pugwash as flour and egg bombs were cascading over the Clyde with sabotage and skullduggery keenly encouraged. Even Pa Broon was spotted in the crowds with a letter no doubt winging its way to the newspaper as we speak.
The course started at Aubery beach and finished at Largs RNLI station as a big crowd turned out to cheer on the different teams which included the Round Table, the RNLI, MacCabes bar, C Fayre fishmongers, and the Blue Bottles (Largs Sailing Club). The high winds meant that the current was actually pushing the boats ashore from Aubery.
The winners - Largs Sailing Club - were as follows: John Boucher, Adam Smith, Susie and Martin Falconer, Dave Cousar, Jamie Mailon, Don Whiteford and John Ritchie.
All retired to the Woodhouse Hotel for an enjoyable buffet to reminisce about more tales from the high seas with some rum!
The Largs Raft Race formed part of the RNLI's Open Day activities on Saturday which included lifeboat demonstrations, children's activities and a helicopter visit.
