Seagull strife after another cone grab!

Comments (3) | Print | Email

On the evening of 9 July I went for a walk, bought an ice-cream cone each from Nardini's then sat on a bench on the prom to enjoy the treat. There were a few gulls around but no cause for alarm. Suddenly, my ice-cream was snatched from my cone by a big gull which had flown over my shoulder from behind. This was silent, precision flying! I was left holding an empty cone.

For a child, this would be very scary and distressing, for me it was admiration for the audacity and skill, then the anger that a peaceful evening had been ruined.

I don't know how to rid the seafront of this menace but I won't be eating another cone on the prom.

Get a box of barley and steep overnight in whisky. Scatter first thing. sit in the wind shelter with an airgun ....and wait.

Only in Largs would someone complain about Seagulls - at the seaside no less!

What is the world coming to?
