John Angus MacLeod.

The renowned Gaelic bard, John Angus MacLeod, husband of the late Nancy Milligan, died at his home in Largs on Friday 9 September at the age of 91. Originally from Tarbert, Harris, John Angus was highly respected in the world of Gaelic especially with his skill at writing lyrics for Gaelic songs and his translations into Gaelic of modern songs. As Honorary President of the Largs Branch of An Comunn Gaidhealach, he was a valued member of the committee and was instrumental in the Royal National Mòd coming to Largs in 2002. His tremendous efforts as Mòd Convenor ensured that the Mòd was extremely successful and Largs was praised for the friendliness of the locals and the efficiency of all who had contributed during Mod Week.

After a chance meeting with the famous astronomer Patrick Moore, John Angus was asked to translate Patrick's latest book on astronomy into Gaelic. After the book, An Reul-Eolas, was published he was called on by Radio nan Gaidheal to comment on any astronomical events that were hitting the headlines. It caused him some amusement to be regarded as their 'Space Expert'.
