Largs Doctors in industrial action

The NHS are preparing for industrial action by doctors on Thursday 21 June

over the dispute with the UK and Scottish Governments over changes to the NHS pension scheme.

A spokeswoman for Largs Medical Group said: "The Largs doctors will be participating in the planned day of industrial action. The practice Doctors will be attending their usual place of work and the surgery will be open during its normal working hours. (8.30am - 5.30pm) However this means that we will be providing

urgent and emergency care only on Thursday 21st June, in line with

recommendations from the British Medical Association."

I hold the medical profession in high esteem but I disagree with todays strikes.

All public sector workers' pensions are being altered. Why should the medical profession be any different, particularly when they can easily supplement their incomes by doing private work. Also, their dispute is with the government so why penalise the working public who pay their salaries.

It's the armed forces that I feel particularly sorry for. Their pensions are being totally overhauled meaning they have to pay more, work longer, receive less at the end and they have no say as to their working conditions throughout their careers. They are also being subjected to stealth redundancies whereby officers and soldiers are being selected for redundancy just before they hit trigger points entitling them to increased payouts. The difference with them is that their "industry" prohibits industrial action.

So just because everyone else is getting treated badly that means doctors should just take it on the nose?

It isn't a race to the bottom, if more of us stood up for ourselves a lot of us wouldn't be in the position we are in. Instead of stabbing each other in the back maybe we should be asking why we should get the shaft whilst those at the top continue to profit.
