An excellent aerial photo of Largs in the 1970s showing how the town centre used to look over 30 years ago has received many comments on the Largs and Millport News Facebook site.

The photo by Grahame Ross shows the former Largs train station, Marine and Curlinghall Hotel, station goods dept, and even the Viking Cinema in a snapshot of local life.

Stephen Graham said: “The Marine and Curlinghall Hotel looks very much in use.” Brother Alan Graham said: “All four platforms are in use at the station, which I can never remember.” Colin Sutherland added: “The Marine & Curlinghall and Viking Cinema were both demolished in the early 80s I reckon. Got some vague memory of the cinema being used as some sort of cash & carry in its final years after it closed as a cinema.” Kenny Bacon added: “I think Whams moved there from the old George Cinema?” Kyle Fulton said: “Well the Viking Cinema is still there and that was demolished in 1983 and given that it is still bright white and not dirty grey as it became towards the end of its days. Moreover, the goods yard also looks to be intact and there aren’t any trees in the Anderson Park.” Evelyn Walker remarked: “It is very strange to see all these old buildings and the spaces.” Cara McKee asked: “Wouldn’t it be great if we had a cinema again?” Marjory Scollin Brown added: “One car on the shore road - There were no problems when parking then.”
