Transport chiefs have no plans to upgrade the A78 between Largs and Skelmorlie.
The network manager for Transport Scotland has told Largs Community Council that this section of the trunk road was looked at as part of a strategic transport projects review, but nothing was highlighted for action.
The comments, by Graeme Reid, are contained in a letter to the community council who had submitted questions to Transport Scotland and TranServe about the controversial road.
In reply to a question about the current maintenance programme, Mr Reid said their operating companies had a contractual obligation to inspect trunk roads and motorways at seven day intervals to identify defects that required prompt attention.
The operating company would carry out temporary repairs within a set timescale and, thereafter, programme permanent reinstatement.
Mr Reid told the “News” there were no plans to reduce the speed limit on the road, however, they would look at the data and raise the matter with the police if there were any speeding issues. He said they would also look at the surfacing and signing on the bends.
