An islander has highlighted the unsightly state of the Isle of Cumbrae beaches.

Mr Ralph McHugh contacted the 'News' after reading about other complaints about the Largs shore.

He asked:"Has anyone seen the state of Cumbrae too?

"Around the north and west of the island, it’s a shocking mess of all sorts of formerly floating debris washed up during the early January storms, just like Largs shorefront. You want tourists but you won’t tidy up?" However, over in Largs people still have complaints such as the one from John Easton who wrote: "The beach at the Pencil remains a mess. Council workers empty the litter bins regularly, open the toilets sometimes, clean the pathway occasionally, but the beach ..is it officially a no-go area? If so, let’s have a large sign proclaiming “Persons using this beach do so at their own risk. It is not recommended for children, pets, paddlers or swimmers.” The full reports and page of views are in the current Largs & Millport Weekly News.
