Tweets on the beat proved to be a successful police drive last weekend.

On Friday 4 April, Police officers in North Ayrshire hosted a 24 hour Twitter event to provide members of the public with an insight into their work. Held to mark their 1st year as Police Scotland, officers took to their social media account with information on incidents attended and proactive work conducted during the 24 hour period.

From 7am on Friday until 7am Saturday officers dealt with 151 incidents in the area including eight missing person reports, four domestic incidents and a variety of others. The North Ayrshire Police Twitter account now has over 2,500 followers many of whom praised the event with comments including “I feel like I’m on the beat with you, keep up the good work” and “Interesting tweets from [Police] over the past few hours – shows the diversity of the job they’re doing”.

Area Commander for North Ayrshire, Chief Inspector Martyn Hopkins, said “the positive feedback we received during this event demonstrates how effective social media is as a tool for engaging with local communities. We will continue to keep people safe and provide information to the communities of North Ayrshire that outline how Police Scotland are impacting on the concerns that matter the most to them.” To follow North Ayrshire officers on Twitter go to www.twitter.com/AyrshireNPolice or search @AyrshireNPolice in twitter search and click follow.
