LARGS couple Ray and Linda Young have been chosen to take part in the Commonwealth Baton Relay when it travels through the town on 15th July.

The community-minded couple, who are active in church life and also on the local Children’s Panel as well as being directors of the Viking Festival, are delighted at the news.

Ray Young, Festival Treasurer, said: “We are delighted at this honour. We are privileged to work with so many great people on the various teams and groups that we are involved with, and we see this as recognition for all the local volunteers that help the town in so many ways”.

Festival Secretary, Linda said: “It is tremendous that the baton is coming to Largs. It is a great opportunity for the town to celebrate in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games. Ray and I are really looking forward to participating on the day.” Festival Chair, Alex Gallagher, said: “Linda and Ray work so hard in so many capacities for their community, not just with the Viking Festival but with other local groups as well. This recognition is really deserved and I am sure that they will enjoy taking part in this wonderful event.”
