Children and young people in Largs and district are being urged to grab their goggles, put on their swimming togs and take the plunge for free this summer.

The pool at Vikingar is part of North Ayrshire Council’s roll out of free swimming sessions throughout the school holidays.

Up until 17 August, under 18s can benefit from free swimming to help get them active and eliminate holiday boredom.

The scheme, which is being delivered in partnership with KA Leisure, forms part of the council’s commitment to providing more opportunities for children and young people to participate in physical activity on a regular basis.

Commenting on the scheme, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, local councillor Alan Hill, said: “We are committed to increasing opportunities for children and young people across North Ayrshire to get more active, more often, to help improve their overall health and wellbeing.

“By providing free swimming sessions we hope to encourage more people to head to their local pool, take the plunge and get fit while having fun this summer.” As well at Vikingar, pools at the Magnum in Irvine, Auchenharvie in Stevenston and Garnock in Kilbirnie are taking part.

Swimmers will need their North Ayrshire Council library cards or National Entitlement Card to gain access to the free sessions.
