A breakfast barbecue took place at Inverclyde Sports Centre on Tuesday morning, attended by hundreds, to celebrate the coming of the Queen's Baton to Largs.

Inverclyde Sports Centre Principal John Kent said: “It was great - everyone from the town turned up. All our young gymnasts were here, and we have a Commonwealth Games team staying with us from Caracas, and they came to the dinner on Tuesday evening with the Provost. It has been a great day.

“It is our Cumbrae Watersports rib which is taking the rib to Millport. This is a real highlight, and when you think in 2008 the Queen came, and here is her baton coming back this week. These are exciting times for Inverclyde Sports Centre.” Viking Festival director Ray Young said: “It was a brilliant experience and you get a real buzz from it. From the build-up from when we arrived, and lovely music in the bus to where you get dropped off really psyches you up. At my age, I will never see anything like this again, and I’d like to thank the people who volunteered us for it. Listen to John Kent and Ray Young in the below youtube link.
