The Viking Festival board are delighted to welcome Les Amis d’Onno to this year’s festival with their interactive “Medieval Stable” containing two horses for the public to pet and a selection of reproduction saddles and tack ranging from Roman times through to the 17th century.

The stable will be located near the Viking Village on 6 and 7 September.

For the festival, the horses in the stable will be particularly accurate as there will be a Norwegian Fjord horse, an ancient breed closely related to the Preswalski horse and most definitely used by Vikings.

His companion will be a Friesian horse, another ancient breed from Friesland, Holland. These horses were in great demand throughout the Middle Ages as war horses and are very accurate of the time.

Members of the Les Amis d’Onno team will be on hand to answer questions and talk to the public to explain the unique features of the tack and saddles on display, as well as chatting about the horses.

Les Amis d’Onno were established in France some ten years ago and are Scotland’s own Equine-Canine stunt team who perform all over Scotland and the UK as Jousting Scotland, Stunt Riding Scotland, Equestrian Theatre Scotland and Film Horses Scotland.

The festival board wish to acknowledge funding received from EventScotland to bring this and other unique events to the Festival. Their advice and guidance is also much appreciated.

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland said: “We are delighted to once again be supporting the festival this year, and we are excited about the fantastic programme the team have created.

“Les Amis d’Onno will be highlights of this year’s festival, which will once again provide a unique insight into Scotland’s history.”
