There was train chaos for commuters on Tuesday evening as all trains coming in and out of Glasgow Central were delayed.

The Network Rail problem was due to an issue with an air compressor concerning the signalling and was fixed within a few hours. Many trains and crews were out of position, leading to much disruption on the line.

Angela Giorgetti said: “Three friends of mine had to get a taxi from central station to Largs in order to make the last ferry to Millport!” Marjory Scollin Brown said: “My daughter tried from 4.30pm, and eventually caught a bus but because it was a McGill’s bus she had to pay her fare as the return train ticket is only for on the First Bus buses. It sounded as though it was a bit of a shambles. Hope it doesn’t happen during the Games as I’m sure the prices folk have paid for tickets they wouldn’t be too happy to be late or miss what they’re going to see.” Janet MacGillivray said: “I went for the 5.20 Glasgow train and got home at 7.50pm.”
