The Largs Museum has a special exhibition dedicated to the beginning of the Great War as the anniversary of its outbreak approaches on Monday.
The founding of the Bute Mountain Battery, which included many Largs soldiers, features in the museum, along with the important role Largs played during 1914-18.
There is a look at the three convalescence homes for wounded soliders - Barra House (which later became the Marine and Curlinghall Hotel) , Clyde College Boys School in Greenock Road, and Warren Park, which was then a private house. Included in the exhibits is an original stretcher used in Barra House, as well as other mementos from people who fought in the Great War. There is also a section on the role local women played in the war.
The musuem in Kirkgate House (on the alley next to The George bar, on the right hand side), is open from 2-5pm each day throughout the summer. For more details, contact Largs Musuem on 01475 687081.
