We asked readers for their personal highlights of the Glasgow Games, described as one of the best ever, as the city put on a superb show for our athletes.

Ailsa Morrison said: “Being a Clydesider in the Athletes Village! The atmosphere has been amazing and seeing how much the athletes from all over have loved Glasgow and the crowds has made the early mornings and late nights all worthwhile.” Laura A. Masters said: “The highlight for me was I got to work with the television production company filming the games as a work placement through my university. I was based at Tollcross International swimming centre. The people I worked with were amazing and when the Scottish folk were standing cheering for the Scottish swimmers was just fantastic.” Elaine Jackson said: “The highlight for me was my Clydesider role of Photo Team Member at Hampden for the whole of the athletics. We were in the very privileged position of working with the official photographers, getting to see trackside all the top track and field events, and working at the closing ceremony tonight was the pinnacle!” James Rae said: “Singing flower of scotland yesterday in the hydro with 13,000 others when Charlie Flynn and Josh Taylor took gold - amazing.” Fiona Delany said: “I was at the swimming and saw Ross Murdoch take the games record. The place was buzzing but Glasgow was just the best; everyone including staff, tourists, police and locals were all in top form and all the street entertainment was amazing.” A proud Derek Horne of Largs said: “I was privileged to be a member of the medical services team and worked at Ibrox and Hampden. Worked with people who were the kindest and most genuine people I have ever met. Proud to be a Clydesider.” Elizabeth Blair said: “I went to the swimming and saw Daniel Wallace achieve a new Commonwealth record. The highlight for us was seeing his Gran’s face as she was sitting beside us! Great morning. We also went to the closing ceremony. Great atmosphere but a bit cheesy in parts. ‘Ae Fond Kiss’ was sung beautifully and the finale was fab!” Gillian McCulloch, of Brisbane Street, Largs, who is an NHS Administrator, was delighted to win a coveted opportunity to perform at the closing ceremony. She said: “It was absolutely fabulous - I had an absolute ball- I was one of the festival goers dancing to Deacon Blue, Kylie, and Lulu. I have actually just watched it on tv but it did not truly capture it - Hampden was alive. They couldn’t get the audience to leave as people were having such a ball, dancing and singing along to some of the songs. It was an amazing experience to be part of!

“We were in rehearsals for the entire time that the Games were on but I wouldn’t have swapped it for the world as it was such a great experience. They auditioned thousands and thousands so I am totally privileged to have got the opportunity to take part - it was absolutely magical and it was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.”
