Former pupils and present parents of St Mary's RC Primary in Largs have written to say that if there is a new super campus for Largs Academy at Inverclyde centre the Catholic school should be included.

Comments were as follows: "Sorry, but as someone who is a former St Mary’s pupil and a current Largs Academy pupil, the accessibility and quality of schooling in Largs Academy compared with St Matthew’s is far superior. It would be a sin not to include St Mary’s in such a great proposal such as the new ‘super’ campus.

As a matter of fact in the past few years, 100% of St Mary’s pupils in P7 have gone to Largs Academy, not down the water to St Matthew’s, so the idea not to include St Mary’s is just the same as not including Kelburn Primary or Brisbane."

Ronan McEvoy "Largs Academy attracts a fair few of the pupils from St Mary’s so it makes sense to me if they are starting with a clean slate and building a new campus."

Jim Morrice "Where I stay now in Stirling there is a community campus with three schools ...Our Lady’s Primary, Raploch Primary and nursery, and the third school is Castleview ASN.

There is also part of the Forth Valley College campus in there too. They are all integrated and running really well. In fact, the children who take part in the Big Noise project all come from this campus. It was done for the good of the people in the Raploch.

Surely if this is done for the good of the people and community of Largs - it’s a good thing."

Lesley Crawford "Re, the proposed new schools campus, I think I recall reading not so long ago that most, if not all, of the pupils at St Mary’s ended up going to the Academy rather than opting to travel to North Ayrshire’s only Catholic secondary. That seems significant to me in this debate."
