Local Labour councillor Alex Gallagher has said it is time to put differences aside now after the referendum vote, and called for political parties to work together.

The No vote was successful in the North Ayrshire vote by a slender margin of 51% to 49%.

Cllr. Gallagher said: “I am delighted with the result and I think that the way the North Coast, and particularly the Largs vote added to the total, was very significant. When I was campaigning in Largs in the last two weeks, it was very obvious we were going to get a No vote and we did that.

“We must learn not to take our vote for granted. The SNP were very organised, we organised against them and in the war of attrition, we won out and got the votes. I think Scotland will get more powers - and I think that it should but we should go at things not at a revolutionary pace, but an evolutionary pace so we can test out new powers before rushing in, rather than taking a leap in the faith like the Nationalists wanted.

“All parties should put aside any differences that they see now, and provide things we need now like a new Largs Academy.”
