Two local Kirk ministers are setting off to Rwanda in October.

Rev Martin Thomson (of Dalry Trinity Church) and Rev Andrew McGurk (formerly of Largs St John’s, and now Locum minister in Loudoun Church, Newmilns) are part of a group representing the Scottish Bible Society on a visit to the Bible Society of Rwanda.

It is now 20 years since the genocide in Rwanda saw over one million people killed in 100 days.

The country still lives in the aftermath of those terrible events. The group from Scotland will not only be learning about the culture and history of this beautiful country but seeing how the Bible Society makes real difference by bringing hope to people’s lives.

In addition to its Bible-related work, the Bible Society of Rwanda is also involved in HIV/AIDs projects; trauma counselling for those still coming to terms with what happened to them or what they saw all those years ago; and work among prisoners.

If you wish, you may follow Martin’s blog at www.martinthomsonrev.blogspot.co.uk which he will be keeping during the 10 days they are in the country from 10th October.
