North Ayrshire Citizens Advice Service (NACAS) and their Local Energy Advice Forum (LEAF) partners will be out and about trying to help people to cut hundreds of pounds from their energy bills.

As the nights start to draw in, NACAS, Home Energy Scotland, Citrus Energy and many other organisations are offering free advice to help consumers save energy, cut their bills and get all the support they are entitled to.

Advisers from CAB, will be in Community Centres and Libraries across North Ayrshire to help residents find out how they can make sure they are not spending any more than they have to on their energy bills.

In North Ayrshire, people can drop into events which will be held in all six of our neighbourhood planning areas to find out how to save on their energy bills.

Locals can access the benefits of Big Energy Savings Week by visiting a free event at Largs Library on Monday 27 October from 10am to 2pm People can get help and advice on how to check they are on the best deal, switch tariff or supplier and take up help to insulate their homes and reduce their energy usage.

By taking action to check, switch and insulate, consumers could make savings on their energy bills: £130 each year by making simple changes to everyday behaviours to become more energy efficient Up to £320 a year from insulating and retrofitting your home £110 average saving paying by direct debit rather than cash or cheque for your gas and electricity Up to £200 saving for switching tariff or supplier if you have never switched before Nina Smith, General Manager of NACAS, said: “During Big Energy Saving Week we’ll be helping consumers to check, switch and insulate to bring their energy costs down. We’re keen to make sure that no-one pays a penny more than they need to on energy costs, so we’re helping people to find practical ways of cutting their energy bills.” During the last Big Energy Savings Week in January, people of North Ayrshire saved almost £10,000 through their energy bills and energy efficiency measures for their homes. This has a huge impact on the day to day lives of people dealing with energy and fuel problems. There are more savings to be had which is why it’s so important people get along to the Big Energy Savings Week events.

Big Energy Saving Week is a national campaign running from 20 to 24 October 2014 supported by Government and led by Energy Saving Trust in partnership with Citizens Advice, Age UK and Action with Communities in Rural England.

Consumers can also get help and advice online at www.bigenergysavingweek.org.uk, from their local Citizens Advice Bureau, or can join in a twitter chat during the week. You can see a full list of events at http://tiny.cc/BESWevents .
