Fears over the future of the Victoria Hotel building on Largs seafront were recently expressed at a business AGM.

Gordon Scott, the owner of Morris’s Steakhouse Restaurant in Gallowgate Street, said he feared the building was in such poor condition that it was ‘in danger of coming down itself’, during the recent Largs BID annual general meeting.

Conservative councillor Tom Marshall pointed out that there was a planning application submitted last year to demolish the building and convert it into a bar/diner restaurant.

However, Mr Scott said that there didn’t appear to be any progress, as far as he could see, and said that there were problems with pigeons, and labelled it as a ‘health hazard’.

The former pub on Largs seafront has been closed for three years, and had been a popular live music venue.

Last year’s submitted application included a two story new build including a balcony with sea views.

Speaking to the ‘News’, Cllr. Marshall said: “Permission was granted to demolish and rebuild the Victoria Hotel last November to a bar/diner by a company in Glasgow. I am hopeful that in the fullness of time, having got the permission to rebuild that, as the economy picks up, there might be a developer that is willing to take it on.

“Wetherspoons did have an interest but the site at Escape was obviously an easier one to develop, but that presumes they can get planning consent.” Transport Scotland have put in an objection to the planning applicaton for Wetherspoons, and the application will not be determined at North Ayrshire Council until after the North Coast by-election on Thursday October 30.
