Largs Academy was hosting a special schools rugby event attended by members of the Scotland team on Wednesday afternoon, as we went to press.

The event involved Ardrossan Academicals RFC, the Scottish Rugby Union and Largs Academy.

Boys and girls had the chance to meet, greet and show off their rugby talents to local heroes Mark Bennett, Gordon Reid, and Scotland’s second most capped player Sean Lamont.

Members of the Scotland team joined over 150 boys and girls from local schools, is part of Scottish Rugby’s build-up for the Scotland v Tonga international Test Match being staged at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, exactly one month later on Saturday 22nd November. Largs Academy’s artificial surface was hosting a Primary School event involving boys and girls from Brisbane, Kelburn and St Mary’s Primary schools in which groups were working with Ardrossan Accies coaches in learning basic skills before trying out some of these newly-acquired skills in a number of TAG (i.e. non-contact) rugby games.

A Girls Rugby Development Day involving a number of girls from Largs Academy and Ardrossan Academy with Arran High School was also due to take place.

An S1 & S2 rugby festival was also scheduled involving boys from Ardrossan, Largs and St Matthews Academies with games being played on the main pitch at Largs Academy.

As a finale, the S3/S4s from Largs Academy and Ardrossan Academy were playing a mixed match of composite teams on the main pitch.
