It also highlighted a number of issues which have been and will be discussed during the consultation.

A North Ayrshire spokesman said: "Given the proposed location of the new campus at the sportscotland site, the development would enable a strong partnership with the national agency for sport, whose ambition is to build a £9m para-sports facility at the centre to further enhance its contribution to the development of a world-class sporting system in Scotland.

"Funding for the facility comes from sportscotland’s capital programme with additional funding from the Scottish Government to ensure a lasting legacy from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games."

"The significant investment would have local benefit for children, young people and the community, through a closer partnership between sportscotland, the campus and local sports clubs, as well as people of all ages from across Scotland who want to participate in a range of para-sports at a fully-inclusive residential national sports centre."
