One child received medical treatment after a school bus from Skelmorlie to Largs had to stop after hitting diesel in the morning.
The bus was travelling from Skelmorlie to Largs at around 8.30am on Monday when the incident happened.
Inspector Michael Oates of Largs Police said: "One of the pupils, a girl, may have a muscle injury, and a couple of other girls were taken home after getting a fright. The bus driver reported the incident to the school, and police officers are attending the school, and making further enquiries."
