Concerns about access to Largs Prom have been raised in relation to industrial traffic blocking an area near the pier.

In last week’s letters page, Mrs Moira Corrigan said: “The contractors at the new Co-op at the promenade near the harbour are using the prom as a car park with as many as 14 vehicles parked there with all the attending dangers for the public.

“Last Tuesday, the contractors even taped the promenade off to prevent public access, which they are unlikely to have permission to do as this is totally a public right of way.” In response, a North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The main contractor CBES Ltd have been granted permission until Thursday 27 November to fence off and occupy a section of the promenade to place site accommodation, builder’s skips and materials while maintaining safe public access at all times.

“Our roads inspector and engineers have visited the site following the complaint but found the site to be safe and segregated as agreed.

“Vans on site were seen to be unloading materials within the fenced off works area.

“We will however make further visits to the site to ensure safe public access.” Co-op received planning permission a year ago to build a premises within the Lanes Amusements, which is replacing the bowling alley.
