Largs teenager Keava Low won the best smile at the UK Teen Galaxy pageant, but missed out on the big prize to go to California and compete in the global competition.

However, the 14 year old is hoping to enter further pageants over the coming year including Junior Teen Great Britain, and the future is very bright for the young modelling hopeful.

We recently reported that Keava was heading to The Park Lane Hotel in Chorley, Lancashire, to take part in the prestigious beauty contest.

Keava had carried out many fundraising activites in the lead-up to the event in support of her sister Tarran, who has Down’s Syndrome.

Proud mum Tanya said: “Keava did really and finished in the top five, and she won an award for the best smile, and that has really spurred her on. She loved every moment in the spotlight.

“We got lots of good luck messages from people in Largs, and it was a great surprise to see Keava and Tarran on the front page of the Largs and Millport Weekly News. and that went straight into her portfolio for the judges to see.

“Last year’s Teen Galaxy winner Caitlin Kinsella from West Kilbride was handing over her crown o Friday night, and Keava wanted to go and see that as Caitlin had been so supportive to her.

“In fact, Caitlin saved the day and stepped in a short notice as Keave’s make-up artist let uher down an hour before she was due to go on.

“Caitlin has been really helpful, and we cannot thank her enough for her help - she has been fantastic.” “We had a great time - there were about 12 of us who headed down to support Keava, and sister Tarran was shouting out her support, loud and proud!” On the big night, Keava had to come on and introduce herself and then there was a fashionwear, and eveningwear rounds, before the judging commenced.

Private one-to-one interviews also took place throughout the day as the excitement was building for the big ceremony.

Tanya enthused: “It was a fantastic event, and Keava loved every minute of it, and she was thrilled to get a place in the top five, and to win the best smile award was great for her debut. I found it totally nervewracking, but Keava was confident throughout!” So what next for the teenage starlet? Mum Tanya says that school studies must be a priority. She is currently in third year at Largs Academy, and hopes to take part in the ‘Face of the Globe’ in May.

And while Keava still very much harbours ambitions to get into modelling at a later stage, she is very grounded and wants to do well educationally.

“Keava has been on the books of a Glasgow modelling agency since she was five,” explained Tanya, “and that is ongoing. She has loved Miss Teen Galaxy, but next year is a very important year for Keava, and her school studies are the most important thing.”
