Police have renewed their appeal for boatowners to be vigilant after a series of recent thefts.

Between 1.15pm on Wednesday 18 February and midday on Thursday 19 February, a van was broken into at Largs Yacht Haven, and two dinghies were stolen.

A grey colour Seago 2.6, dinghy with navy blue nylon zipper case, valued at £500, was taken, as well as a 2.95m grey Zodiac dingy. Both boats were valued at £500 each.

A Yamaha outboard engine was removed from a boat at the Yacht Haven. The 8 horsepower motor has a scratch to the top of its coating, and is valued at £2000. The incident happened between midday on Saturday 14 February and 5pm on Thursday 19 February.

Inspector Michael Oates of Largs Police said: “There was also a theft at Portencross recently, and we would like to take the opportunity to remind boatowners to be vigilant, and if anyone sees anything suspicious by the sea, to raise concerns with the police immediately.” There was a spate of outboard motors stolen from boats last year, and police have raised concerns that opportunist thieves are again operating in the area.

A number of garages to the rear of Keppeburn in Fairlie were broken into between 6pm on Wednesday 18 February and 8am on Thursday 19 February.

A custom built Trek fuel mountain bike, valued at £1800, was stolen, as well as as a black Carerra bike valued at £250. Other materials stolen included a silver chainsaw valued at £120, a Makita Stihl saw valued at £300 and a Bosch 110v drill valued at £60.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 39 year old man was knocked to the ground and assaulted in Largs Town Centre.

The frightening incident happened at 11.30pm on Friday 20 February at the junction of Bath Street and Largs Main Street.

The man was subequently punched and kicked, according to police reports, and CCTV footage in the town centre is being examined by police.

A 40 year old man has been reported for possession of cannabis in Flatt Road, Largs, at 3.15am on Saturday 21 February.
